Boston-based Wanderu is bringing bus travel back in style. The former PayPal Start Tank startup announced Wednesday it has inked a partnership with Peter Pan Bus, one of the largest private busing companies in the country, which also happens to be headquartered in nearby Springfield, Mass.
As a result of the deal, Peter Pan’s schedules across 100 different Northeast towns and major cities will now be available on Wanderu.
"This partnership is particularly special to us as a Boston based company," Wanderu CEO Polina Raygorodskaya told BostInno via email. "Peter Pan is the bus company most of us in the area grew up riding and associating with bus travel."
Wanderu’s tech allows users to route multiple bus carriers together, meaning that people can find the most economic and convenient deal on two buses that connect, whether it be in Boston or Washington D.C., regardless of brand.
The partnership opens up a big window of opportunity for the startup, which just hit one million trips this April. With the addition of Peter Pan, Wanderu folds a bus service that carries four million passengers annually – and 11,000 daily – into its offerings.
The 16-person company announced this spring that its service is available all over the country. At the time, Raygorodskaya also noted that Wanderu plans to push out a mobile app sometime this summer. In August 2013, Wanderu banked $2.45 million in seed funding.
