A week after the Supreme Court ruled Aereo’s live TV-streaming service illegal, the Boston-born company is calling upon its users to contact Congress to “take action to protect your right to use the antenna of your choice.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Aereo Chief Executive Chet Kanojia said to consumers, “I’m asking you to raise your hands and make your voices heard.” Continued the CEO:
Tell your lawmakers how disappointed you are that the nation’s highest court issued a decision that could deny you the right to use the antenna of your choice to access live over-the-air broadcast television.
Over the weekend, Aereo announced it was shutting down its current service and refunding users for the last month – a move that ultimately buys the company time to plan a pivot, or at least debate what the right next step will be for its 110-person team, the majority of which is based in Boston.
The startup is directing people to do so via ProtectMyAntenna.org, a website that was launched before the Supreme Court hearing in preparation of a potential loss. The site has now been updated to let consumers easily access their state representatives.
