Big Data Company RapidMiner Acquires Radoop to Bolster Analytics Offerings

Predictive analytics company RapidMiner continues on the rise after settling into its Cambridge home in March. The company announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Radoop, a leading big data analytics solution for Hadoop to make Hadoop implementations more powerful and easy to use with RapidMiner's advanced analytics suite.

RapidMiner has kept a strategic partnership with Radoop for two years, which initially allowed the company to expand into the US market. With the acquisition, Radoop will take on the role of RapidMiner's big data division, with founder and technology luminary Zoltán Prekopcsák becoming vice president of big data. Key partnerships will be added involving Cloudera and Hortonworks, two of the most popular Hadoop platforms. Twenty new client companies, including Schneider Electric, Prezi, Ustream and Fractal Analytics, will also be added to RapidMiner's portfolio.

RapidMiner will now be able to take advantage of a growing global market in big data analytics, and become one of the first enterprise-ready and commercially supported predictive analysis suites in Hadoop, CEO and co-founder of RapidMiner Ingo Mierswa said in a press release. Explained Mierswa in a statement:

With 38,000 production deployments and 250,000 active users, RapidMiner’s advanced analytics platform has seen phenomenal adoption across an ever-growing number of organizations. With the addition of Radoop, business and IT organizations can now fully leverage the world’s most comprehensive predictive analytics suite in a platform that costs far less than proprietary technologies, delivers greater functionality, and is easier to deploy and manage.

RapidMiner closed out a Series A round in November 2013 with $5 million, and opened up offices in Burlington, Mass. and San Francisco, while swiping another spot in Alewife in March 2014. The company has signed more than 400 paying customers since 2011, including Lufthansa, Paypal, Volkswagen and Pepsi.
