Tech enthusiasts and entrepreneurs huddled into Cambridge’s Royal Sonesta Hotel on Monday night for yet another quarter’s WebInno, a meetup designed to spotlight Internet and mobile startups growing in the Boston area.
After a healthy dose of networking and hearing from the event’s “Side Dish” startups, attendees headed into the main ballroom to hear from three local companies – Bridj, Bedrock Data and Squadle.
In the wake of a warm welcome from WebInno founder and NextView Ventures partner David Beisel, each startup had the mic for around 10 minutes to pitch and demo before fielding questions from the house.
Once all three companies had shared their value propositions with the crowd, people were urged to pick their favorites.
Taking the vast majority with 45 percent of the votes was Bridj, a bus service startup that aims to shake up public transportation with big data.
The split between second and third were far closer, with restaurant management SaaS platform Squadle scooping up 35 percent of the votes, leaving data transfer company Bedrock Data with 20 percent.
“We're thrilled and very thankful to take home the Audience Choice Award last night, especially when judged against such worthy peers. You know the hard work is paying off when individuals outside of your company recognize your success,” Bridj founder and CEO Matt George told BostInno via email. “We believe that this recognition reinforces what we are hearing from our beta customers’ that Bridj is filling a vital role within the current public transit system.”
