San Francisco-founded grocery delivery service Instacart raised $44 million in Series B on Monday from Andreessen Horowitz on a $400 million valuation, according to VentureBeat.
The startup lets people score groceries with same-day delivery in as little as a hour by setting its own prices for goods. Since its start in 2012, Instacart has raised $54.8 million.
Over the past few months, the company has been quickly expanding in the Boston area. Instacart first launched locally back in December with the promise of bringing customers their goods from Shaw’s. Soon, the West Coast startup added Whole Foods and Costco to its list of participating stores, and expanded its coverage to Boston’s largest neighbors, including Chestnut Hill, Cambridge, Brookline and Medford. Trader Joe's, however, has banned the service.
Instacart also keeps a two-person office in Central Square.
The company is now live in 10 cities around the country, and plans to add an additional seven by the end of 2014.
