Cambridge and Virginia startup Zaius just raised an initial $6.3 million round, led by Matrix Partners.
Named after a character from “Planet of the Apes,” the company simplifies how businesses collect, analyze and use data to improve customers’ digital experiences. Zaius aims to provide a complete view of their customers by letting companies capture multi-dimensional customer data from all channels, rather than fragmented data silos.
The funding is from the venture firm’s Cambridge office, according to BetaBoston. Matrix’s support of the startup makes sense, given that former entrepreneur-in-residence Philip Wickline is a part of Zaius’s founding team. Wickline previously worked for Endeca, which was acquired for more than $1 billion by Oracle, and served as CTO of local database startup hadapt. Matt Tharp, formerly of Seaport-headquartered tech firm LogMeIn, is also a cofounder.
Wickline and Tharp combined forces with a Leesburg, Virginia-based company dubbed Voodo Lunchbox earlier this year. As a result, Zaius has outposts in both Virginia and Boston, employing a total of seven. The Boston branch will host most of the company’s marketing and sales, and Zaius is currently peeping places along the Red Line.
