Somerville-based PillPack, which provides doorstep delivery for pre-sorted prescriptions, announced on Friday that it is cutting its$20 subscription fees for all of its customers.
It’s a move that will not only shake up the pharmacy experience, but simplify medication management for millions of people.
“We believe that everyone deserves a better, simpler pharmacy,” said TJ Parker, PharmD and CEO of PillPack, in a statement. ““We know that our customers have bills, mortgages, rent, car payments, and other costs of living, all while managing the expenses of health care and medications. Recognizing these challenges, we’ve worked hard to make PillPack available at no extra cost beyond medication co-pays.”
PillPack’s service targets the 30 million Americans who take five or more medications daily. Every two weeks, a user receives a shipment of all their prescriptions, from inhalers to insulin to regular pills, neatly organized in easy-to-use packets and eco-friendly dispensers. There’s no need to worry about getting caught in insurance snafus, either. The company accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare Part D.
From its pharmacy in Manchester, NH, PillPack is licensed to manage and ship prescriptions to patients in 36 states, including Texas, North Carolina, South Dakota. In February, the company launched nationally and announced that it had raised $4 million from Atlas Venture and Founder Collective.
