UPDATE 5/21 9:40 a.m.: Drizly also announced on Wednesday that it will now be delivering beer in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as the Hamptons. Though Bostonians have had access to beer delivery via the startup's service for a while, thirsty New Yorkers can now enjoy the benefits of having ice cold brews delivered to them, whether in the city or at the beach.
Boston booze delivery service Drizly closed a $2.5 million seed round of funding on Wednesday. The startup will use the funding to move into new markets and expand its team.
The round was led by Continental Investors of Chicago, with participation from Gary Vaynerchuk through Vayner RSE Ventures and Suffolk Equity, which will fold into the startup’s $2.3 million seed round, raised in January. The company has raised a total of $4.8 million.
Started by a trio of Boston College grads, Drizly is an app that lets you buy alcohol and, with one click, have that alcohol delivered to your door in 20 to 40 minutes time by partnering with local liquor stores.
The company launched two years ago in Boston, and has since expanded into New York City, Brooklyn and, as of last week, Chicago. Drizly is also eyeing Los Angeles for its next location, which is due this week.
The company has numerous local investors who participated in the first part of the seed round, including members of Atlas Venture's AngelList Boston Syndicate and entrepreneurs Walt Doyle, Lars Albright, Tom Crotty, Ty Danko, Julian Jung, Alexander Keith, Pat Kinsel, T.J. Mahony, Austin McClintock, Chris Merrill, Ivan Mitrovic, Fred Shilmover and Streetwise Media's own Chase Garbarino.
