Boston’s backend-as-a-service company Kinvey is getting in on the beacon game.
The company revealed on Monday its mobile platform for beacon-enabled enterprise applications. Beacons, which use low-energy Bluetooth to wirelessly collect location information to send personalized push notifications to prospective customers, is “the next big wave,” Kinvey CEO and cofounder Sravish Sridhar told BostInno.
With Kinvey’s new solution, agencies and companies can build beacon apps using frontend tools and the beacon hardware of their choice, while IT is supported with an up-to-date backend product.
“Every beacon vender does beacon slightly differently … the person building the app would have to do a lot of work to get data from beacon and determine what real proximity really is before drawing results,” explained the executive.
The new product, however, eliminates companies’ need to go through the motions of writing cumbersome beacon-specific code by offering a built-in client library, which simplifies the process.
A testament to the startup’s ability to move quickly and tackle a new market, Kinvey added this new feature in six weeks, according to Sridhar.
“This really expands the number of use cases that we can address for the customer,” shared Sridhar. “We’re setting the platform for Kinvey to be the enabler not only of mobile applications but also of mobile applications supporting the Internet of Things.”
Kinvey is already being used by quite a few connected companies, like sunlight-tracking wearable and app SunSprite.
Founded in 2010, Kinvey is a Techstars Boston alum and has raised $7 million in funding from Atlas Venture, Avalon Ventures and SK Ventures.
