Alcohol Delivery App Drizly Launches in Chicago

Let’s hope people are thirsty in the Windy City: Alcohol delivery startup Drizly officially launched in Chicago on Thursday, continuing the company’s speedy expansion into metros across the country.

Party people of the legal drinking age can use Drizly to order anything from a handle of vodka to a few bottles of wine, all with a single tap on an iPhone or Android app. The order is then dropped off at their given location in just 20 to 40 minutes, meaning no more rounding up cash for beer runs or lugging heavy bottles.

The company, founded by a handful of Boston College grads, now offers its services in three cities: Boston, New York City and Brooklyn, and Chicago.

"Chicagoans are ready for a smarter way to purchase alcohol," said Nick Rellas, co-founder and CEO of Drizly, in the release. "Why go to the liquor store when Drizly brings the huge selection and great prices of the local liquor store to you? Let us save you the hassle of finding parking, or lugging heavy bottles home."

Already tackling its third location, Drizly is seeking to dominate the alcohol delivery market, and it's clearly catching on. After all, it’s tough to say no to a frosty six-pack delivered to your doorstep.

The appeal to join the startup’s team is pretty strong, too. Drizly, which raised nearly $2.3 million in funding in January, made a trio of huge hires last week: Hugh Hunter as its vice president of engineering, Jeremy Kriegel as VP of customer experience, and Bryan Goodwin as VP of sales and retail partners. The new executive talent hails from Vente Privee, Gemvara and TripAdvisor, respectively.

Drizly also recently partnered with Uber to give a lucky Big Apple-based user and friends a swagged out trip to the NBA Finals, complete with pre-game drink package, tickets and rides by the black car service startup.

Cheers to you, Drizly!
