Office Envy: InsightSquared is 'Less About The Ping-Pong, More About The Attitude'

“I want to make InsightSquared the best workplace anyone ever had,” cofounder and CEO Fred Shilmover told BostInno.

Well, the three-year-old company’s digs in Cambridgeport are surely a good place to start for achieving the executive’s dream.

Of course, the simple-to-use software analytics startup knows that the makings of an ideal work environment are more than the physical space. For instance, the company treats its 70-plus employees to lunch everyday so they don’t have to stress about preparing their meals throughout the week – an expensive but much appreciated perk, said Shilmover.

InsightSquared’s serious traction also serves as a big appeal to prospective talent. After monstrous growth and adding nearly 30 to its sales and marketing teams in 2013, the company has a lot of fresh faces to pack into its new space at 160 Second Street in Kendall Square, where InsightSquared plans to move in June.

And one particularly sweet aspect of the company’s new space is its ping-pong table. Just kidding, though they have one of those, too. “It’s less about the ping-pong table, and more about the attitude,” explained Shilmover.

InsightSquared has an underdog, small business mentality baked in, and it eyes talent that’s similarly scrappy. When employees and teams hit goals, the company has a tradition of cooking up a full pancake breakfast, bacon included.

That being said, the new space will have a pretty ridiculous roofdeck. Sounds like the perfect spot to sip some brews in the [finally] warmer weather, no? Well, InsightSquared’s got it covered on the libation front with an in-house beer sommelier, who keeps the company’s kegerator freshly stocked with the best craft brews.

Take a peek at the following pics to get a better feel for InsightSquared’s culture.

Writer's Note: A previous version of this article mentioned that InsightSquared had moved to Kendall Square. The company will officially move to Kendall Square in June, and is currently based in Cambridgeport.
