TripAdvisor Acquires Local Vacation Rental Company

Tripadvisor announced on Friday that it has bought up another local 'travel tech mafia' member in the state of Massachusetts.

The travel review and booking site scooped up Vacation Home Rentals, based in Newburyport, Mass. The newly acquired company’s website displays more than 14,000 properties available to rent, according to TripAdvisor.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TripAdvisor, which is currently based in Newton, will be relocating its headquarters to Needham, Mass. and recently signed for a spot near North Station for two of its sister sites at 226 Causeway Street.

TripAdvsior made $944.7 million in revenue and saw a 24 percent increase in year-over-year traffic in 2013, according to its annual report.

Writer's Note: A previous version of this article mentioned that TripAdvisor was moving its headquarters to 226 Causeway Street. However, the company is relocating to Needham, Mass. and moving two of its sister sites, Smarter Travel and FlipKey, into the Causeway Street space.
