Another spring, another promising crop of startups springing out of Techstars Boston. Twelve teams will be taking to the House of Blues stage on Tuesday, April 29, for a much-anticipated Demo Day they have been tirelessly working towards for three months.
Each were granted a $100,000 convertible debt note, as well as legal, banking and hosting services, mentorship and office space. The cohort is actually the first to have worked out of Techstars' new space in the burgeoning Leather District, and the last to have worked under the day-to-day guidance of Katie Rae and Reed Sturtevant.
Word leaked earlier this year that the Techstars directors were trying to raise a new fund for Project 11 Ventures and had hired new people to take over the day-to-day operations. In March, the accelerator announced prominent local angel investor Semyon Dukach would be the new director, filling in for Rae following Tuesday's Demo Day.
Last year's Demo Day (photographed above) will be a hard one to top. Beyond Red Sox slugger David Ortiz making a surprise appearance, the teams were impressive. In the last few months alone, grads PillPack, Codeship and Synack have raised $4 million, $2.6 million and $7.5 million, respectively.
Let's see how this year's group stacks up. The doors open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and presentations will start at 9:25. Networking will follow from 11:30 to 1 p.m., all in preparation for the mingling expected to be done at the After Party, which is being held at Storyville from 7 to 10:30 p.m.
