Fitness app RunKeeper announced on Thursday that the app's iOS update will include a new goal feature to help users stay motivated and keep track of their progress.
The addition, aptly dubbed Goal Coach, is aimed at helping people pick health and fitness goals that are attainable, while logging more workouts using the app. Goal Coach starts with a goal – be it a wish to run the Boston Marathon next year or a goal weight before a wedding this summer – and makes recommendations based on your past activity as well as those similar to you.
Goal Coach gets even sweeter for users who opt to spend a bit more for RunKeeper Elite. The new feature, paired with the premium model, will also provide weekly progress updates and help adjust your goals and workout plans along the way.
The price for RunKeeper elite is $5 a month or $20 a year currently, but it's expected to double – $9.99 a month or $30 a year – for new users.
The news of the update comes hot on the heels of the debut of RunKeeper's latest fitness-focused app, Breeze, which counts users' steps throughout the day and sends push notifications when daily activity goals are met.
