Boston-based mobile health care startup Wellframe announced Monday it has secured $1.5 million in seed funding. The startup's mobile platform enables outpatients with serious conditions to stay in close contact with their health care providers in the months following their return home from the hospital.
The round's investors include Carl Byers, venture partner at Fidelity Biosciences; athenahealth CEO Jonathan Bus; Tim Draper of Draper Fisher Jurvetson; Russ Nash, former Accenture Global managing director; and Leerink Capital Partners Founder James Nahirny, among others, according to Xconomy.
The startup is a bit like having a nurse or doctor in your pocket. The app provides patients with checklists and instructions to help them monitor their symptoms. Users can also keep in contact with their doctors and nurses, allowing the creation of a continuous, rather than episodic, relationship between healthcare provider and patient.
Wellframe was founded in 2011 by Jacob Sattelmair, Trishan Panch, Vinnie Ramesh and Archit Bhise. The company currently employs nine people out of its office in Downtown Boston.
