Steve-Oblak-1

Online home décor retailer Wayfair announced on Wednesday that is has appointed a new SVP and general manager. Steve Oblak will steer the strategy and excution of the ecommerce company’s flagship brand, Wayfair.com.

Oblak has been with Wayfair for the past five years, and most recently served as Wayfair’s Vice President of Category Management, a position in which he oversaw catalog management and fostered supplier and manufacturer rapports for Wayfair.com, as well as AllModern and Wayfair Supply. Oblak also directed the introduction of Wayfair.com’s Daily Sales program, a flash sale feature that engages shoppers with significant savings on limited time offerings.

“In his time at Wayfair, Steve has been a key driver of the company’s rapid growth and success,” said Niraj Shah, CEO and co-founder of Wayfair, in a statement. “He has tremendous insight into our supplier network and is dedicated to building an exceptional shopping experience. As we accelerate our rollout of private label brands and create a larger scale site merchandising strategy, I am confident that Steve is the right person to lead the charge for Wayfair.com.”

The company has made a number of key hires and promotions in the past year. Most recently, in February 2014, James Savarese was promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Wayfair brought on Michael Fleisher as CFO last October to aid the company when the time comes to post Wayfair’s IPO. Fleisher ushered Warner Music Group and Gartner through their initial public offerings in 2005 and 1993, respectively. Christiane Lemieux, the founder of DwellStudio, which Wayfair.com acquired in August 2013, also joined the team in late 2013 in the role of VP Executive Creative Director.

Lemieux led the design and roll out of Wayfair newest brand, Birch Lane, which debuted last week.

The company, which raised $157 million in Series B financing on a $2 billion valuation in the last month, is well on its way to being the next public Boston area tech company. Wayfair is expected to IPO this spring.
