It’s only been two months since clypd settled down in Somerville, but the TV advertising platform company is already feeling right at home. After spending around a year holed up in Dogpatch Labs, the company began the quest for a space of its own. Searching long and hard for the perfect fit, the clypd team finally found the office of its dreams. With the creative brilliance of designer Haley McLane, the company turned the new digs into an industrial chic space all their own, full of comfortable nooks and crannies, an open and airy floor plan, a bar … did we mention there’s a bar?
As it so happens, the bar plays an essential role in clypd’s culture, serving as a literal watering hole for the startup’s 60 employees. Beyond the traditional brews, the tap also serves up cold-brewed coffee and tea. In the words of the company’s co-founders and former PayPal execs Joshua Summers and Doug Hurd, the team is “really just a bunch of beer geeks and coffee nerds.”
And they can prove it. Each Friday, the company hosts a "Lunch & Learn," giving employees the opportunity to chow down on some free lunch and learn from an individual killing it in a particular field, be it a serial entrepreneur, an investor, an engineer, or the folks at Newport Brewery. That’s right, the New England craft brewers came into clypd’s office the other week for a session, explaining the science behind what goes into their beers, as well as provided a tasting.
While all said perks of the layout came with the space, the clypd team made sure to put its own unique mark on the space, starting with the furniture. Summers and Hurd shared that they had nearly all the fresh wood and chrome conference tables custom-made by a designer in Philly and a crafting couple in the North Shore. Not to mention the extra flair from the old-school arcade machine and foosball table, a retro 'screening room' and chalk board-painted walls, with swirled signage denoting the beverages on tap that day.
Sounds too good to be true? clypd wants you to come see its new spot for yourself. The company will host an Open House on April 17th, so stop on by! Can't make it? clypd plans on hosting plenty of events in the future, starting with TEDxSomerville this Sunday.
