Boston College-born booze delivery app Drizly tapped Michael DiLorenzo as its new SVP of marketing on Tuesday.
DiLorenzo hails from yet another company with local roots: online retailer Rue La La, where he was VP of the marketing group. In his new role with Drizly, he will offer up strategy and oversight of all marketing opportunities as the company ups its door-to-door alcohol delivery service in Boston and New York City. DiLorenzo will report directly to the startup’s Co-founder and CEO Nick Rellas.
Prior to Rue La La, DiLorenzo was a senior director at the National Hockey League, where he formed the League’s social media marketing department and strategy.
DiLorenzo was drawn to Drizly for its big potential to be the "Amazon for alcohol." He told BostInno:
I am a power user of both Amazon Prime and Uber, and when Nick Rellas introduced me to the idea of Drizly a couple of weeks ago – ironically, it was over a beer at Donohue’s in Watertown – I nearly fell off my barstool because it has a chance to be the Amazon for alcohol. Working for Ben and Steve at RueLaLa was the experience of a lifetime, but to get in on the ground floor with a transformational mobile lifestyle app like Drizly was something I could not pass up.
News of the hire comes just nearly two months after the company landed a $2.25 million round of seed funding from Atlas Venture's recently-launched AngelList Boston Syndicate, with participation from Abundance Partners, Breakaway Ventures, Continental Advisors, Fairhaven Capital, Reynolds & Company Venture Partners and several other seasoned entrepreneurs in the area.
At the time of the funding, Drizly also announced a key partnership with worldwide wine and spirits production leader Pernod Ricard.
