Local e-commerce success story Wayfair announced on Tuesday that it has named James Savarese as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Prior to joining the top ranks of the company, Savarese served as senior vice president of operations at Wayfair. Tuesday marks a significant internal promotion for the company. In his new role, Savarese manages Wayfair’s key operations functions worldwide, overseeing sales, customer service, supply chain, merchandise operations and third-party partner programs.

“James has been instrumental in building Wayfair’s world class operations from the ground up,” said Niraj Shah, CEO and co-founder of Wayfair, in a statement. “As COO, he will provide the operational vision and leadership to ensure that we remain at the forefront of our industry in delivering an exceptional ecommerce experience.”

Just last week Wayfair announced that it pulled $915 million in revenue in 2013. The company certainly seems to be on the path to IPO – a major yet clear next step for the firm that could take place in the end of 2014 or early in 2015.
