The company in question is ClearSky Data, which raised $12 million in capital from Highland Partners and General Catalyst in late 2013, reports Scott Kirsner.
While there's no clue what ClearSky Data will do as of yet (there's not even a website yet), the startup is in the hands of two well-seasoned entrepreneurs: Ellen Rubin and Lazarus Vekiarides.
Rubin was a founder at CloudSwitch, which was acquired by Verizon in 2011, whereas Lazarus was one of the first on the Equal Logic Team, which was bought out by Dell for $1.4 billion on its path to IPO.
The two founders were paired up by serial entrepreneur Paula Long, who also has a spot on the startup's board. Joining Long on the company's board are David Orfao from General Catalyst, Sean Dalton from Highland Partners and Jit Saxena, Rubin's former boss at Netezza and investor in CloudSwitch.
Though started in Kendall, the single-digits team is currently eyeing office space near Government Center and South Station, where they hope to build out a team with skill sets in "storage security, data virtualization and networking."
