Boston-based mystery shopping app Mobee acquired Kickscout, a local shopping app forged by RunKeeper Co-founder Michael Sheeley. Though the terms of the deal were not disclosed, TechCrunch reports that it was a combination of cash and stock.
Sheeley left his post at fitness app RunKeeper in 2012 after growing the company's audience to more than 10 million users. The serial entrepreneur then launched Kickscout in the summer of 2012 to let people "shop as a team" over mobile devices.
Founded in late 2011 by recent UC Berkeley graduate Thibault Le Conte and MIT Sloan graduate Prahar Shah, Mobee piloted the program at MIT in early 2012. The team launched out of private beta just a few months later with $1.1 million in seed funding in tow, along with the support of TiE Angels, Hub Angels and other community readers.
In the wake of the acquisition, Sheeley will stay on with Mobee as Chief Product Officer and help grow its development team. Mobee currently has 15 employees, but the team is due to grow to 20 with the addition of five more engineers.
We've been in touch with both Shah and Sheeley for the details of the deal. Stay tuned for updates.
