When it comes to being an innovation capital, Boston has many a merit working in its favor.
The brainpower coming from the area’s dozens of universities is unbeatable, qualifying the city as the second smartest in the country. Among Cambridge, Boston proper and the suburbs, this corner of Massachusetts hosts an increasing number of angel investors and venture capital firms with deep pockets and an eye for spotting soon-to-be successful startups. In the last decade, the city has garnered a grassroots entrepreneurship scene, leading to the inception of incubators, accelerators and coworking spaces, all of which are under the vise of well-versed mentors and attract young companies the world over.
But can you blame them? After all, Boston is oft-cited as one of the top three destinations for entrepreneurial activity in the country. Even so, the Hub loses talented entrepreneurs each and every year to competitor communities, like San Francisco and New York City.
So, we have to ask, Why do promising young startups feel the need to flee?
BostInno posed the question to three MassChallenge startups that sprouted here, all of which have different moving plans post-accelerator. Read the companies' founders rationales in the following slideshow and share your comments below.
