The Echo Nest announced Friday that it has sealed a partnership with the longest-running on-demand music subscription service Rhapsody. With access to the Somerville-based company's music tech and massive library of songs and artists, Rhapsody will provide over a million paying customers with a new radio service, along with smartphone-friendly stations for Android and iOS.
As part of deal, Rhapsody subscribers around the world will now have access to curated artist and song stations. Leveraging the The Echo Nest's understanding of individual users' music tastes, Rhapsody will provide a personalized listening experience. Along with the radio streaming services, Rhapsody will also offer no ads, unlimited skipping, favoriting and preview and rewind features. Listeners will also be able to tune the mix of songs played with a Variety Tuner bar, as well as give a track a "thumbs up" to hear more songs like the one they are listening to, or a "thumbs down" to express distaste, similar to Spotify or Pandora.
The Echo Nest's music intelligence platform is responsible for powering the music libraries and customization features of Spotify, Rdio and other leading music personalization technologies.
