We've all been there. Staring impatiently at the ever-spinning wheel of our smartphone's browser. There's no reason why your phone or tablet should take what seems like centuries to load a webpage when your laptop takes mere seconds. We want our content, and we want it now.

Fortunately, Waltham-based Q Factor is here to help. The startup emerged from stealth mode this morning, revealing its focus on solutions to dramatically improve the delivery and viewing of media-rich content on mobile devices and announcing that it has raised $6.5 million in financing from Sigma Prime Ventures and Venrock.

The new funds will be put towards building out the sales and marketing team, Q Factor CEO and co-founder Subhash Roy told BostInno. The startup currently employees 18 engineers, but the new additions on the non-technical side will aid in the company's global expansion.

"We’re expanding in the US and worldwide. People really love to communicate on phones and tablets," explained Roy. "When it comes to video messaging, Facetime, Skype, Vine and others, more people want to use mobile."

Q Factor has a proprietary packet recovery technology that enables any company delivering content wirelessly to eliminate data packet loss, thereby accelerating the searching and loading process on cellular Wi-Fi.

"We solve a problem that people see everyday. When you start looking at your phone, things often seem a lot slower than they should be. It takes a long time for video to get there, and for video to play," shared Roy.

Investors Mike Tyrell of Venrock and John Simon of Sigma Prime will also join Q Factor's Board of Directors.

“Subhash and his founding team have unparalleled experience and knowledge of this market,” added Tyrrell in the release. “The combination of this talent and their disruptive technology will prove to be a game-changer in delivering content over wireless.”

Prior to Q Factor, Roy co-founded Onex Communications, a company within the semiconductor space for telecommunications, which was acquired in 2001 by TranSwitch Corporation. Roy then stepped into the position of CTO at TranSwitch before joining Kodiak Venture Partners as an Entrepreneur in Residence and later as a Principal.

Started in early 2012, Q Factor has raised $980,000 in debt funding.
