What to Watch in Boston Biz 10/28: #TechTuesdays, MassChallenge Awards & MassTLC's unCon

Boston's innovation community will shut down October in style in the next seven-day sprint. And we're not just talking about the Red Sox's bid for the World Series or Halloween. While we may be saying a forlorn farewell to leaf-peeping, this final week is shaping up nicely, with three of most highly-anticipated events of the season taking place: the MassChallenge Awards Ceremony, MassTLC's unConference and Harvard Business School's Cyberposium. Be sure to check out BostInno's recaps throughout the week to make sure you don't miss a thing.

Monday 10/28

Boston Startup Job Fair – Come one, come all! If you are a qualified student or a recent grad looking to join a talented startup team in Boston, take a trip over to the Microsoft NERD Center at One Memorial Drive today at 9 a.m. Last spring, the event brought in more than 40 startups, resulting in the hiring of around 50 students. This time around, Formlabs (which just raised a $19M Series A), BookBub, Acquia and Sqrrl are just a few of the companies looking to build out their team today.

Tuesday 10/29

Startup Secrets: Culture, Vision and Mission – North Bridge Ventures partner and serial entrepreneur Michael Skok will talk at the Harvard innovation lab on Tuesday about how to step up to the task of defining a culture, as well as a compelling vision and mission, for your young company. The event is open to Harvard students, and will run from 6-9 p.m.

Tech in Motion: Techtober Fest – Starting at 6:30 p.m., smartwatch wearers and Google Glass aficionados alike should head on down to The Baseball Tavern on Boylston to grab drinks and gab about the latest in wearable tech-ccessories. Google Glass Explorer Don Schwartz, founder/CEO of AfterDark Technologies Daniel Wilson and founder/CEO of Sensible Baby Ben Cooper will play host at this costumed event, so don’t miss out on an opportunity to pick their brains and squeeze another night of use out of your Halloween get-up!

#TechTuesdays – The gang over at Privy is kicking off the first ever #TechTuesdays this week at Kingston Station, starting at 5 p.m. Come to Downtown Crossing for the happy hour to imbibe a few brews and meet other companies in the neighborhood. Cambridge has Venture Café, and now Boston has Kingston. Let’s make it happen.

Wednesday 10/30

MassChallenge 2013 Awards Ceremony – The city’s accelerator will dish out more than $1,000,000 cash and over $10,000,000 in-kind Wednesday evening to MassChallenge’s 26 contending startups. Hosted by The Daily Show’s Aasif Mandvi with keynote speaker George T. Whitesides of Virgin Galactic, the event will pop off at 6 p.m. at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Thursday 10/31 Halloween!

Babson Rocket Pitch – Babson, Olin Engineering and Wellesley College students and alumni will throw out their best three-minute pitches Thursday to a large audience of students, faculty, entrepreneurs, investors and service providers, with a networking session to follow. Registration starts around 1 p.m.

Friday 11/1

MassTLC Innovation unConference – One of the Boston tech community’s most highly-anticipated events, the unConference, will take place on Friday at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, starting at 8 a.m. In typical unconference fashion, attendees will draft up the day’s schedule of sessions and topics covered. Amazing innovators and investors alike from Boston and beyond will be available to offer up their wisdom to those looking for feedback on their business ideas. No panels, no keynotes, no advertising pitches? No problem. Check out some of last year's coverage, and for those still in need of a ticket, BostInno and MassTLC have a few freebies with your, or your team’s, name on them! Learn more here.

Saturday 11/2

Cyberposium 2013: Technonomy 2.0 – Members of the tech and media industries will flock to Harvard Business School Saturday morning to hear from this year’s Cyberposium’s slew of entrepreneurial talent: Travis Kalanick, CEO and co-founder of Uber, Rich Miner, co-founder of Android and Google Ventures partner and Bill Clerico, CEO and co-founder of WePay.
