Boston's business elite has been busy this past week. Catch up on who's going where below:
Gene Shkolnik will move into the role of CTO at CoachUp, an online marketplace that helps match aspiring athletes with the company's pre-screened coaches and fitness experts. Before joining the startup, Shkolnik worked at Kayak as the travel company's SVP of Engineering and Product, where he oversaw a three-fold increase in the size of the development team. The new CTO has also served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Matrix Partners.
"The great thing that I love about CoachUp is that it empowers people. It helps amateur athletes to get better at the sport that they love, and even more importantly, it enables coaches to do what they enjoy doing the most: coaching and helping athletes to get to the next level," Shkolnik told BostInno over email.
With the addition of Shkolnik, CoachUp expands their team to 14 full-time employees. Started in 2012, CoachUp's platform now serves over 14,000 coaches and over 38,000 athletes. The TechStars alum raised $2.5 million in Series A led by General Catalyst, a long-time backer of Kayak, and Breakaway Ventures, as well as a handful of local investors including HubSpot's Dharmesh Shah. Adding to the Kayak-CoachUp overlap, Kayak cofounder and CTO Paul English joined the startup's board of directors back in August.
