Tech enthusiasts of New England will be flocking to Burlington, Vermont, this weekend for the 7th annual Vermont Tech Jam featuring robots, Google Glass, and, best of all, recruiters looking to hire. Running from the 18th to the 19th, the VT Tech Jam is a family friendly event that will showcase some of the key startups that have led to CNN calling Vermont the most inventive state in the nation.
Over the course of the weekend, attendees will have the chance to see some of the most cutting-edge robotics in development, including Bina48, the shockingly realistic humanoid robot. VT Tech Jam will also feature exhibits and talks from video game developers, graphic designers, green tech innovators, and recruiters from some of Vermont's most successful companies like MyWebGrocer and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. On top of this you can sign up to learn how to make a credit-card-size computer in one of the weekend's hour-long workshops hosted by Logic Supply. Check out the full list of the 70+ exhibitors that will be in attendance here.
Burlington has been making quite a splash of late: It was #2 on Kiplinger's best places to live 2013, Forbes called it one of America's best downtowns, and it is one of National Geographic's favorite Adventure towns. In addition to being the home of Ben & Jerry's, Burlington is quickly becoming a destination for entrepreneurs.
Cairn Cross, cofounder of Vermont-based Fresh Tracks Capital, told Entrepreneur.com this spring that Vermont has seen substantial growth in the startup industry. "It's a far cry from 2000," when, Cross said, he "might have looked at 15 to 20 business plans a year from the region. These days there's no shortage of great ideas brewing in Burlington and surrounding communities."
Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger kicks off Tech Jam at the Memorial Auditorium at 10 a.m. on the 18th. The event is free and open to the public. Check out a Vermont Tech Jam success story in the video below.
