Last week, we shared which of Boston's venture capital firms are funneling the most finances into, and doing the most deals with, the city's startups in 2011. But which New England firms are on the leader boards for the first half of 2013?
Atlas Venture and Polaris Partners have had the strongest start this year, according to Boston Business Journal.
Here's a break down of the Hub's top two contributors:
Atlas Venture
From its Cambridge location, Atlas participated in 15 deals in New England over the past two financial quarters, with 10 0f those deals occurring during the second quarter.
Deals:
- A $18 million round for CustomMade, a $5.5 million Series A for Skillz and a $7.5 million round for Gizmox are among the deals that Atlas took part in this year.
- Atlas also played a role in a $27 million round for DataXU and a $8 million Series B funding for Insight Squared, says the Boston Business Journal.
- In 2011 and 2012, Atlas set the standard as the local VC with the most investments in Mass. companies.
Polaris Partners
This VC firm holds offices in Waltham and Cambridge, and closed eight deals in the New England region during the first two quarters of 2013, reports the Boston Business Journal.
Deals:
- Polaris participated in a $40 million Series E round for T2 Biosystems, as well as a $30 million round for Living Proof.
- A $14 million Series B round for Iora Health, a $12.5 million round for Taris Biomedical and a $1.5 million for Bluetrain also went down, thanks to this VC.
- With 33 deals, Polaris is also a notable investor in Mass. businesses over the past two years.
