13 Local Startups That Are Looking for Student Interns Right Now



For college students looking to get a taste of the startup life, the easiest way to get involved is by interning. There’s nothing to lose -- most students can coordinate college credit, while some companies, like Incentive Marketing, have even offered pay -- but a lot to gain. The experience, alone, should be reason enough for students to dive in, but the added bonus is that internships lend a safer way for curious outsiders to ease into the startup life. And what better time to apply than now, before the semester starts? Here are 13 local startups that are looking for student interns today. We found these 13 startups by polling our Twitter followers.

Local Hem -- @localhem-- Located in Cambridge, Local Hem allows customers to shop all their favorite East Coat boutiques from one site. From Duchess to Sadie’s, Local Hem believes in the idea that “by supporting small businesses, we can all live a little better.”

Curbed Boston -- @CurbedBoston-- Coined as the “Boston neighborhoods and real estates blog,” Curbed reports on sales and rental prices, new development, neighborhood trends and celebrity deals in a fun, witty way.

Incentive Targeting -- @incentivetarget-- With offices in Cambridge, Incentive Targeting partners with retail chains to provide a web-based targeted marketing service, allowing manufacturers to market directly to their individual shoppers based on each person’s detailed purchase history. 

Skyhook Wireless -- @SkyhookWireless-- Based in Boston, Skyhook Wireless prides itself on being “the worldwide leader in location positioning, context and intelligence.” They developed the “Core Engine,” a software-only location system based on Wi-Fi positioning, GPS and cell tower triangulation.

Influencers@ -- @influencersAT-- Influencers@ is a marketing agency that aims to increase brand awareness and boost sales through various street and web marketing campaigns, driven by their team of Gen-Y and Gen-X “community influencers.” The company’s currently looking for an accounting intern who understands QuickBooks.

REEL College Ventures -- @REELColVentures -- REEL College Ventures is a documentary/reality series that plans to follow three “engaging and entertaining, college educated, entrepreneurial ventures,” willing to share their personal and professional lives in six episodes. Interns will not only get the opportunity to work with REEL College, but they’ll also get the chance to learn more about startups Mini Pops, Day2Night Convertible Heels and Pure Pest Management.

Par8o -- @par80 -- Located in Cambridge, Par8o’s goal is to “empower physicians and their patients with solutions for the American healthcare crisis.” The company’s currently trying to reinvent the typical referral, and are in the process of getting their product launched.

Acquia -- @Acquia -- Acquia is a commercial open source software company that provides products, services and technical support for the open source Drupal social publishing system. And not only are they looking for student interns, but they’re also looking for recent graduates to work for Acquia U.

Inphantry -- @inphantry-- Inphantry believes “every good idea deserves an army to bring it to life.” The company’s comprised of a group of interactive professionals who love design work and strive to integrate video, motion graphics and touchscreen technologies into big-name brands like Cadillac, John Hancock and Yahoo! to give them a new life.

Privy -- @getprivy -- Privy is a new online promotions platform that will enable users to launch and track promotions across their website, emails and social media channels. The team is currently looking for a software intern to help push them even further.

Lifeables -- @Lifeables-- Lifeables is a free service that enables parents to easily collect, organize, safeguard and share all of the digital posts, pictures, events and conversations that detail their children’s lives. Currently in beta mode, the company is looking for marketing, business development, operations and product development interns to help launch Lifeables off the ground.

Muzzy Lane -- @MuzzyLane-- Located in Newburyport, Muzzy Lane creates 3D multiplayer games for learning. From history, to science and urban planning to business, the company puts a fun, interactive twist on education.

Urbane Sophisticate -- @UrbanSophistic8-- With their first issue released January 1st, Cambridge’s latest digital media and advertising technology company is looking for journalism, advertising and design interns to push their company into the new year.
