May saw a dip in venture capital dollars flowing into Massachusetts startups, totaling $698 million. This is a dip from April's $900.5 million, but nevertheless, it's a good showing. Biotech and healthtech accounted for the majority of the funding in May, but a smattering of money flowed into a few other industries in Massachusetts.

Let's see who brought in the most money last month.

Biotech

  • Delphia, a new Cambridge biotech incubated at Google Ventures, launched with a $67 million Series A investment round.
  • Cambridge-based Flagship Pioneering unveiled its spinout, Prologue Medicines, and committed $50 million to the startup.
  • ArkeaBio raised a $26.5 million Series A round, led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, to develop a vaccine that reduces livestock methane emissions.
  • Cambridge startup Nabla Bio raised a $26M Series A venture capital round to build its integrated AI and wet lab technologies.

Healthtech

  • Boston neurotechnology startup Neurable Inc. raised $13 million, bringing its total capital raised to over $30 million.
  • Ajax Therapeutics Inc. closed a $95 million Series C round. Goldman Sachs Alternatives led the round, and other investors included Eli Lilly and Co., Vivo Capital and RA Capital Management.
  • Brixton Biosciences, a startup spun out of Mass General Brigham, raised a $33 million Series B to develop injectable ice.
  • Vaxess Technologies Inc., raised $12 million. The startup has now pocketed more than $90 million in total equity and nondilutive funding.

Energy

  • Pascal, a Harvard University spinout, raised $8 million for high-efficiency, climate-friendly HVAC developments.
  • Breakthrough Energy Ventures raised $150 million for its "Follow-on Fund I LLC." A total of 15 investors participated.

Pharmaceutical

  • Zenas BioPharma in Waltham raised a $200 million Series C round, led by SR One, with participation from NEA, Norwest Venture Partners, and Delos Capital.

Software

  • Monitaur, a Boston software firm, raised a $6 million Series A to grow the business and add staff. The round was led by Cultivation Capital.

AI

  • HoneyNaps, a South Korea-based startup with U.S. headquarters in Boston, completed an $11.6 million Series B venture capital round.
