April has come and gone, and with it $900.5 million in venture capital raised by Massachusetts startups. This is up from March’s $788.9 million, and our February tally of $410 million.

In April, we saw the largest round of funding so far this year, a number of biotechs launching with big bucks, and a few early-stage seed rounds that added to the total.

Let’s take a look at which companies raised money last month.

Energy
  • Nexamp raised $520 million to support its plans to expand community solar in what appears to be the largest round of funding for a Massachusetts-based startup so far this year.
Biotech
  • Diagonal Therapeutics emerged from stealth at the start of the month with a $128 million Series A.
  • PureTech launched Seaport Therapeutics with a $100 Million Series A.
  • A new immunotherapy company, Corner Therapeutics, launched with $54 million.
  • Breaking, a new Boston startup aiming to tackle plastic pollution, launched with a $10.5M seed round.
  • Harvard M.D.-founded Adaptilens, which is aiming to revolutionize cataract surgery, has secured $17.5 million in a Series A round.
  • Boston- and Austin-based Somite has raised $5.3M in pre-seed funding to build what it says will be the "OpenAI of stem cell biology."
Software and security
  • Workflow software company Tines has secured $50M in financing, an extension of its Series B.
  • Boston-based Allure Security closed a $10 million Series A for its AI risk detection software.
  • Cybersecurity startup VulnCheck raised $4.75, closing its seed round.
