A Malden startup is among the five companies named to the Greentown Go Energize 2023 program.

Go Energize aims to support companies advancing technologies for offshore wind development. The program is run by Greentown Labs, a Somerville-based climatetech incubator, and is funded by Vineyard Wind, Katherine St. James, the former senior director of programs at Greentown Labs, told BostInno when the program was announced. The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and Vineyard helped select and will mentor the startups.

Malden-based SeaDeep is the only local company in the cohort. SeaDeep is developing AI-powered subsea vision for inspecting marine environments and underwater structures. The goal is to help cameras detect objects and materials, such as coral health or damaged metals, in real time. The company was also a participant in the first BlueSwell incubator hosted by the New England Aquarium and SeaAhead.

This cohort is focused on offshore turbine monitoring and ecological data collection. Greentown Labs said it received more than 60 applicants from a dozen countries. The four other participants in the cohort are Denmark-based Blue Atlas Robotics, Norway-based FutureOn, California-based HyperKelp and Netherlands-based Lobster Robotics.

"The offshore wind industry is as much about harnessing innovation as it is about delivering projects that create clean, renewable energy," Vineyard Wind CEO Klaus S. Moeller said in a statement.  "The startups selected in this round have the potential to elevate what's currently possible when it comes to data collection and turbine monitoring. We're excited to continue our partnership with Greentown Labs and look forward to seeing the progress of the participants in the coming months."

The startups in Go Energize will work with Vineyard Wind and MassCEC over six months to advance their commercialization efforts. Their mentors will also connect them with wind developers, NGOs, scientists and others in the offshore wind industry.

Each startup will have desk space and membership at Greentown during the accelerator and will receive $70,000 in non-dilutive stipend funding. The cohort will complete their program with a showcase on November 16 at Greentown Labs in Somerville.

"Partnerships like this are instrumental in driving Massachusetts toward its ambitious climate goals. The pace of growth and innovation in offshore wind brings exciting opportunities, and MassCEC looks forward to working with these startups to realize successful commercialization,” said MassCEC CEO Jennifer Daloisio.

Greentown Labs offers startups lab space, shared office space, a machine shop, an electronics lab, and software and business resources. It has locations in Somerville and Houston, Texas, that are home to more than 200 startups.
