The Massachusetts High Technology Council’s next public-policy leader comes directly from the office of former-Gov. Charlie Baker.
The organization today announced Elizabeth Mahoney as its new vice president of policy and government affairs, responsible for developing and executing its public policy agenda. Mahoney previously worked for Baker as deputy chief of staff and policy director, and then as a senior adviser.
The Massachusetts High Technology Council (MHTC) is the longtime advocacy organization for the region's technology companies.
“I am thrilled to join the High Tech Council,” Mahoney said in a statement. “I am looking forward to being part of this impactful, focused advocacy team, and excited to contribute to and further the Council’s mission of maintaining the economic competitiveness of Massachusetts.”
While working with Baker for eight years, Mahoney managed the development and implementation of his office’s policy agenda.
The council said she already has experience working with business groups and advocacy organizations. The legislation she worked on touched such areas as the opioid epidemic, zoning reforms, bond bills supporting economic development and infrastructure and education finance reform.
Mahoney also played a role in helping to oversee the emergency Covid-19 shutdown and reopening of the state’s economy.
“Elizabeth has provided strategic oversight of a number of Gov. Baker’s signature policy priorities over the past eight years,” MHTC President Christopher R. Anderson said in a statement. “Her solid reputation and deep familiarity with the intricacies of state government will shape and strengthen the council’s short- and long-term policy agenda.”
Mahoney worked on Charlie Baker’s campaign for governor and, prior to that, Kerry Healey’s campaign for governor and Mitt Romney’s 2008 campaign for president.
Mahoney lives in Arlington and received her bachelor’s in government from Harvard College.
