Boston-based retail and data analytics company ThirdChannel has released a real-time safety auditing system developed based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and evolving state and local guidelines, in time for retail stores reopening in Massachusetts.

As the state enters the second phase of reopening the economy, retail stores, patios and playgrounds will start to reopen with caution.

The mobile auditing system, called "Retail Safety Auditor," helps retailers conduct comprehensive store-wide audits that score each store based on metrics such as cleaning and sanitization, employee education and health, customer information, state and local guidelines and customer feedback.

“At a national level, retail spending accounts for almost 30 percent of our GDP," said ThirdChannel CEO Gina Ashe in a statement. "Whether stores have remained open during the outbreak or are just re-opening now, if we don’t lower risks, we may see a spike in disease transmission, which forces closings again. That could have a cataclysmic effect on our economy."

The brands ThirdChannel works with, including Asics, Bose and Burberry, could begin using the app as they gradually reopen retail stores.
