After the acquisition of another medical manufacturer in 2022, CellTreat Scientific Products says it's run out of operating space in Pepperell, prompting its move to a new facility.

Earlier this week, CellTreat moved into its new 113,000-square-foot facility in the Central Massachusetts town of Ayer, about 15 miles from the old headquarters. The new facility allows the manufacturer to house its growing team, expand its sales team, and increase production.

Two years ago, CellTreat began its recent growth. First, it saw its team double due to hiring and business growth, which was followed by the acquisition of the New York-based VistaLabs in 2022.

According to CEO Rich Happerell, the fast expansion resulted in the tripling of CellTreats' workforce, which led to the team quickly exceeding available space at its existing facility.

“We ran out of places to put people. We had some people floating around waiting for someone to be away on vacation … So we're pretty happy now that everyone's got official spots. We even have some visitor locations.” said Happerell.

Before moving to Ayer full-time, the company was straddling two facilities between Ayer and Pepperell, making shipping and inventory more difficult.

The new facility is big enough to handle the requisite volume of incoming trucks and containers, and represents a 30% increase in square footage for the building.

CellTreat currently has 80 employees and is in the process of growing its sales force, product development group, and supply chain quality group. Because of its quick growth, the manufacturer is selectively hiring for positions that will help support the company's growth.

“During the pandemic, we were kind of really head and shoulders above our competition, and we just want to continue that super high level of service, and it's going to be a lot easier now with all the products under one roof,” said Happerell.
