Workable, the Boston-based startup that develops talent acquisition software, has laid off 25 employees—9 percent of its workforce—as a result of the coronavirus, a company spokesperson confirmed Friday.
The layoffs spanned multiple departments and offices. Workable has offices in Boston and Athens, Greece. The news was first reported by Insider, a Greek news outlet.
"The decision to conduct the layoff round was entirely driven by the impact that Covid has had on hiring in most industries," the spokesperson said in an email.
Indeed, talent acquisition—the subsector that Workable exists to serve—has ground nearly to a halt as companies enact hiring freezes and are forced to conduct layoffs themselves. In Boston, more than two dozen startups and tech firms have collectively let go of thousands of employees since mid-March.
The Workable employees who were let go have been offered outplacement support and can opt in to Bridge, Workable's outplacement solution that connects ex-employees with companies in the Workable network that are hiring, the spokesperson said.
