Boston-based Dispatch is the latest local startup to announce job cuts as COVID-19 continues to stir the economy.

In an email to BostInno, Dispatch CEO Patrick Burns declined to comment on what departments were affected or how many employees were let go. But a source, who wished to remain anonymous, told BostInno the company laid off close to 38 percent of its staff.

“During this time of global unprecedented uncertainty, we are taking several steps to reduce risk in our business in order to continue to deliver essential support to our customers throughout the COVID-19 crisis and well beyond recovery,” Burns said. “Unfortunately, as part of these measures, we have had to make the deeply difficult decision to let go of several valued team members.”

The seven-year-old company develops a software platform that lets people book home services professionals for services like pest control and appliance repair through an app. Dispatch’s software connects customers with brands and service providers.

Dispatch joins a growing number of Boston-area startups and tech firms that have been forced to lay off or furlough workers. The list includes more than a dozen local startups including companies with "unicorn" status like Toast, ezCater and DataRobot.
