Humatics, the Waltham-based startup that makes an advanced navigational technology, has welcomed Shawn Henry as its new vice president of product management and engineering.
Henry comes to Humatics from CISCO, where he served as general manager of Cisco Defense Orchestrator, the company's cloud-based management solution. Shawn was responsible for next-generation firewall engineering, a billion-dollar business for Cisco's security business group.
In his new role at Humatics, Henry will be responsible for driving the development and delivery of Humatics' spatial intelligence platform, which uses microlocation, a locating technique that can pinpoint the exact position of a target with accuracy up to a millimeter.
David Mindell, the co-founder and CEO of Humatics started his career at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where he worked on developing precision navigation for deep ocean exploration. Mindell was inspired to bring his deep-sea findings to the surface world, replacing his work with sonar technology to work with radar.
Henry shares that passion with Mindell: He has experience building navigation boats and has spent much of his life on the sea.
"My father was a marine engineer, and I have a U.S. Coast Guard fishing license," Henry said. "I was attracted to the founders because of their deep-sea research."
Humatics raised $28 million in Series A-1 financing — a figure that brings the company’s combined Series A and A-1 to $46 million, and total financing to more than $50 million.
In 2018, it acquired 5D Robotics, a Carlsbad, Calif.,-based company, and its subsidiary, Time Domain, a 31-year-old company based in Huntsville, Ala., that develops ultra-wideband technology.
In 2020, Henry said, the company's focus will be to bring its existing tech to a broader market and zero in on the logistics industry.
