New students, rejoice. goPuff, the Philadelphia-based convenience delivery service, is now operating all across Greater Boston, delivering convenience store products like ibuprofen and ice cream around the clock.
Last week, goPuff launched service in Newton, including delivery to the Boston College campus. The company is now offering “superfast deliveries” in the area 24/7, according to an email from a goPuff spokeswoman. goPuff's signature promise is to deliver items within 30 minutes.
The Newton expansion comes on the heels of the opening of a new distribution center in South Boston just last month.
“The concept was really embraced by college kids,” Elizabeth Romaine, goPuff’s director of communications, said in a recent phone interview. “Over time, we expanded our assortment. Based on customer demand, we're adding a lot of product categories that were certainly complementary to our core selection—snacks, drinks, ice cream—but really expanding the definition of convenience to include household products, school supplies and more.”
goPuff has been operating in Boston since 2013; the company’s third-ever location, and its first outside of Philadelphia, was in Downtown Boston that year. It expanded to Allston-Brighton in 2017. Over the years, the company has marketed aggressively to Beantown’s college students, handing out branded shotglasses and offering coupons and snacks from branded cargo vans on college campuses.
goPuff’s top products for Bostonians this year so far? Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Fruit Gushers, Funyuns and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, according to data shared with BostInno in August.
“Ice cream is popular all year round, including in the winter—when someone brings it to you,” Romaine said. Boston is also the largest market for Polar Seltzer. Go figure.
