With Independence Day right around the corner, we've compiled a calendar of creative and innovative events around Boston. From live podcast recordings and women-only networking events to outdoor movie screenings, beat the heat at our fun, summertime events.

Week 1

Monday, July 1

Outdoor Film Screening of Hidden Figures starring Inbound 2019 Speaker Janelle Monáe: To celebrate Janelle Monáe becoming a speaker for Inbound, the annual event is hosting a free screening of Hidden Figures at Christopher Columbus Park. The screening starts at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. RSVP for the event here

Get More with Excel: Learn to excel at Excel at the Cambridge Innovation Center at 50 Milk St. This workshop will teach you how cultivate data and analytic skills using Excel. Bring your own laptop to this event. Admission is free, and the event lasts from 1 to 2:30 p.m.  

Tuesday, July 2

Open Project Night: The first Tuesday of every month, Impact Hub Boston offers its space to the public to collaborate on various social impact projects. One of its current projects is rePurpose Global, which includes discussion on rethinking the global use of plastic. The free event goes from 6 to 8:30 p.m.   

Wednesday, July 3

Entrepreneurship Crash Course: Have you always wanted to be an entrepreneur, but didn’t know where to start? Attend this webinar hosted by Coachieve to learn what type of business to start, how to write a business plan, common mistakes to avoid, and more. The free webinar is from 8 to 9 p.m. 

Friday, July 5

Startup Growth Strategies for Fast Growth: Learn how to grow your business with this webinar hosted by Sprinters, a company dedicated to accelerating women-run businesses. With the webinar, you also get a free invite to Sprinters' online community, where you can network with other women entrepreneurs. Learn more about the webinar here. 

Saturday, July 6

Kendall Square Cambridge Food and Innovation Tour: Combine your love for food with innovation by attending this Off the Beaten Path Food Tour. At each stop on the tour, you will visit food stops, learn food science fun facts, and get a behind-the-scenes look at some of Boston’s top restaurants. The tour lasts three hours, from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is $60. 

Week 2

Monday, July 8

How to Use Storytelling for Personal Branding and Career Success: This workshop, hosted by General Assembly Boston, teaches various narrative techniques that can be applied to attendees' lives or careers. Key takeaways from the event include awareness of individual storytelling techniques, how to craft your own narratives, public speaking advice, and tips to be confident in front of audiences. Podcasting for Beginners: Future podcasters will gather at the Staples Studio at 1660 Soldiers Field Rd. for a class taught by Ina Coveney, host of the Trailblazing OUT of Corporate Life podcast. Attendees will learn podcasting basics, including recording and editing tools. The class runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and costs $15.  

Tuesday, July 9

Open Office Hours CIC: Zepher Business Services is hosting open office hours at the Cambridge Innovation Center at 50 Milk St. in Boston, where nothing is off limits. Experts will be there ready to answer your business questions. The event is located on the 15th floor from 1 to 2:30pm. 

Front and Back End Coding 101: If you’ve wanted to try your hand at coding but don’t know where to start, visit General Assembly Boston to learn the basics of frontend and backend from professionals in the industry. The event is at 125 Summer St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A regular ticket to this event is free.   

Wednesday, July 10

Free Salary Negotiation Workshop: The Work Smart Boston initiative, created by the American Association of University Women and the Mayor’s Office of Women's Advancement, is offering a free two-hour workshop. Women will learn about the gender wage gap, identifying personal value, and how to use persuasive language. The event, hosted by the Roxbury Innovation Center, is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

Shape Up: Exploring Tech, Fitness, and Health: At this panel, hosted by General Assembly, a group of innovators will discuss the intersection of tech, fitness, and health. You'll hear all about emerging technologies within the health and fitness sector. Learn more about the event here.  

Thursday, July 11

Venture Café in Session: From 3 to 8 p.m., the Venture Café in Cambridge will be holding a free afternoon of socialization with fellow entrepreneurs. At this event, you will participate in productive conversations and become a part of the entrepreneurial and creative communities in Boston. 

Friday, July 12

Excel Bootcamp: Let’s be honest, Excel can be tricky. This course, offered by General Assembly Boston, is designed for beginners to learn the basics, from calculations to formatting. Price of admission is $250 for the six-hour boot camp. 

Saturday, July 13

Fashion Tech Startup Campaign: To celebrate its crowdfunding campaign coming to a close, Qatchcode is hosting a celebration with donors, entrepreneurs, and those interested in fashion or tech. Qatchcode is a Boston startup that combines fashion and technology to make online shopping easier. Drinks, food, and admission are all free. Week 3

Monday, July 15

New Member Mixer with Speed Networking: Boston Young Professionals (BYP) is organizing a mixer for new members at Battery Park Grill and Patio. The event will give the newest yuppies an opportunity to network and ask questions about upcoming events with BYP. Tickets cost $20 for guests and are free for BYP members. The event starts at 6 and ends at 8 p.m. 

Tuesday, July 16

She+ Geeks Out in Boston July Happy Hour sponsored by edX: Journey to Cambridge for a happy hour at She+ Geeks Out. All genders are welcome at this casual event full of food, drinks, and discussion. Held from 6 to 8:30 p.m., it costs $10 to attend. 

Wednesday, July 17

InfluenceHER Week 2019: Spend two days attending workshops, listening to keynote speakers, and eating chocolate at this years' InfluenceHer Week. The event kicks off Wednesday at 8 a.m. and concludes Thursday at 5 p.m. Located at the Innovation and Design Building at 19 Drydock Ave., tickets cost $525 for MITX members and $595 for non-members.   

LearnLaunch Summer Showcase: Interested in checking out the latest technologies in the education sector? Attend the LearnLaunch Summer Showcase from 5 to 7 p.m. at 281 Summer St. General admission is $5. 

Thursday, July 18

BizGrow 2019: If you’re a small business in need of legal help and business support, attend BizGrow 2019 hosted by the Lawyers for Civil Rights. A group of pro bono attorneys will provide free business aid and legal advice. There will also be business workshops on topics such as intellectual property. The event will be held at Suffolk University’s Law School from 1 to 6 p.m. 

Friday, July 19

Introduction to Python Bootcamp: Slither in to this bootcamp hosted by General Assembly Boston. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you’ll learn how to write and run Python scripts, basic programming concepts, and more. The bootcamp costs $299. 

Week 4

Monday, July 22

Summer of ’69: The Moon Landing: On July 20th, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made the first crewed moon landing. Former NASA Astronaut Dr. Jeff Hoffman will teach us the legacy of the Apollo 11 mission and explore the future of space travel. This $25 event is out of this world. 

Tuesday, July 23 

Masters of Scale Live with Guest Tory Burch: From 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., the Wilbur Theater will be recording a live show of the podcast Masters of Scale. Host Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, will be in conversation with fashion designer Tory Burch. The night will feature special guests, music, and storytelling. Tickets are $32. 

Wednesday, July 24

The uNsbn #SmallBizBuffet - Small Business Buffet: If you love free food and networking, then this event is for you. Co-hosted by Urban NYCHE Marketing, Inc. and L.I.R. Productions, this event will feature guest speaker Robbie Samuels, author of the best-selling book Croissant vs. Bagels: Strategic, Effective, and Inclusive Networking at Conferences. The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. in Cambridge. 

Thursday, July 25

Medusa: Reclaiming the Myth: Part of the Museum of Science’s Summer Thursdays series, this 18+ event retells the myth of Medusa while exploring themes like female empowerment and collaboration. The multi-sensory event takes place in the Charles Hayden Planetarium and features a live band. For more information about the event, click here.  

Friday, July 26

User Experience Design Boot Camp: This $250 workshop is designed to teach you how to understand and research humans in relation to design, basic UX concepts, and more. The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at General Assembly in Boston. 

Week 5

Monday July 29

Swift Fest 2019: Swift Fest is a two-day event based on the Swift programming language. Located at the Calderwood Theater, the conference invites programmers, engineers, students, and anyone who’s interested in Swift to participate in workshops and listen to a variety of speakers. The event starts on Monday at 9 a.m. and ends on Tuesday at 6 p.m. More information can be found here.

Tuesday July 30

Chamber in the A.M. at WeWork: This event is designed for the early birds of Boston. The WeWork at 625 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge is hosting a networking event before the workday even begins: from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Don’t worry about the early timeframe a latte, because light breakfast, including coffee, will be served. Tickets are $20 for chamber members and $40 for non-members.  

She+ Geeks Out in Boston July Networking Event sponsored by Workable: Join She+ Geeks out and Workable for a women-only networking event. Between 6 and 9 p.m., women are invited to eat, drink, network, listen to speakers, and compete in raffles. Tickets are $10. 

Wednesday, July 31

Pricing for Profit: Head over to Brighton for this $20 seminar on pricing strategies, value points, and maximizing profits. The event, hosted by the Center for Women and Enterprise, is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Learn more here
