A Mumbai, India-based startup that makes workplace collaboration tools is flocking to Boston to set up its North American headquarters.
Flock offers tools like email, calendar, chat apps and video calling. It considers Slack, Gsuite and Microsoft Office its direct competitors.
The company was founded in 2014 by Bhavin Turakhia, a London-based entrepreneur who also founded Zeta India, a startup that offers HR solutions like tax benefits and reward programs for corporations. He also sold a part of his first venture, Directi, to Burlington, Massachusetts-based Endurance International Group in 2014.
"People say that both New York and Boston have a vibrant tech scene, but Boston definitely has more tech," said Turakhia.
The company recently appointed Ryan Kelly and Nick D’Ascensao as vice presidents of global marketing and sales, respectively. Both will be based in Boston. Flock also plans to hire for more than 20 open positions in sales, marketing and content.
Some of Flock's U.S. clients include Namecheap, Skin Laundry, Vision Wireless and Farmers Restaurant Group.
“There are many parallels between Boston and India, where Flock was founded five years ago, since both are on the rise in the larger tech scene and offer immense growth opportunities," Turakhia said. "This made it an easy decision to select Boston as our North American headquarters over tech heavyweights like Silicon Valley."
