If you've ever bought a commuter rail ticket through the app, you've interacted with London-based company SaaS company Masabi.
Masabi, the startup that provides fare collection infrastructure to a number of public transit agencies across the world including MBTA, raised $20 million in a Series C led by London-based Smedvig Capital and MMC Ventures.
The company will use the funding to advance its mobile ticketing platform and bolster global expansion. Although, the company is headquartered in London, CEO Brian Zanghi (who is based in Boston) affirmed that the ten-year-old startup's journey started in Beantown.
"Masabi got going based on a Boston contract," said Zanghi. "One of our co-founders met someone at MBTA and devised an app for commuter rail ticketing in 2012, the company's pilot contract."
Today, Masabi’s Justride platform is currently used by over 50 transport agencies in ten countries, including for Boston, Denver, New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles in the U.S. and in Hague, Sydney, Rome and more.
Zanghi noted that whileMasabi is location-agnostic when it comes to hiring, it is currently looking to hire project managers, program managers and account managers in North America.
Additionally, the company is also partnering the Regional Transportation District RTD and Uber in Denver to launch a feature that will allow riders to schedule Uber rides, as well as buy transit tickets.
