2019 has its first stealth emergence.
New York-based Sonrai Security, a startup founded by former IBM security executives, emerged out of stealth with $18.5 million in Series A funding led by Mass.-based Polaris Partners and TenEleven Ventures. New Brunswick Innovation Foundation also participated in the round.
The startup's software solution assures data security across cloud platforms like AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. Sonrai Security's cloud data control, as its founders put it, enables a company to track data and users across different cloud platforms as well as third-party data sources like MongoDB and MySQL. When it comes to compliance, the solution flags violations to mandates like GDPR, HIPAA and PCI.
The company is founded by former IBM security executives Brendon Hannigan (who also serves as CEO) and Sandy Bird, the team that ran Q1 Labs. It's a network security startup that was acquired by IBM in 2011, and the company counts the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts as one of its customers.
"By putting data and identity at the center of a security model that spans cloud providers and third-party data stores, Sonrai Security offers a level of control and security never possible in a traditional enterprise network,” Hannigan said in a statement.
