Just Add Cooking, a five-year-old meal kit service sourcing ingredients from New England markets, ceased operations as of Monday, Nov. 5.
"We're so grateful to you, our customers, who have helped us support our mission of creating a new food system in New England through our local food delivery service," is the current voicemail of the company.
In an interview with BostInno in April this year, CEO Jan Leife said that at that time, the company had an ongoing seed round seeking $1 million, and it secured a $500,000 investment from an undisclosed angel group.
In October, the company explored an alternative way to raise funding by launching a WeFunder crowdfunding campaign to raise a target of $300,000. The plan was to use the investment to expand the service in the Northeast and introduce a second-generation, highly personalized meal solution platform powered by artificial intelligence, the company wrote in a blog post.
In the same blog post, the company said it had 700 subscribers and retail meal kits in 13 stores, including Roche Bros. The partnership with the Wellesley-based chain of supermarkets was meant to introduce an alternative to meal kit delivery: customers could directly pick up two-person servings of Just Add Cooking recipes in the refrigerated section of the store.
As of Monday afternoon, the site of the South End startup still lists positions available for a weekend customer service representative and a part-time CTO. Jobs were posted, respectively, on Oct. 25 and Sept. 20.
