A bustling tech center like Boston's thrives thanks to a global workforce -- migration has become emblematic of the startup economy we live in.
According to a recent workforce report released by LinkedIn, Boston lost most of its talent to San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City. Boston had the most exchange (losses + gains) with NYC -- the report stated that for every 10,000 LinkedIn members in Boston, 73.42 workers either moved to or from New York City in the last year. Some other cities including Austin, Seattle, Washington DC and Denver.
And where did Boston gain most talent from? Springfield, Providence and Hartford. Some other cities sending talent to Boston include Burlington, Vermont, Albany, New York, Mumbai and Bangalore, India.
As for job growth, hiring was up 3.7 percent in October 2018, compared to last year and seasonally-adjusted hiring was up 1.7 percent in October, compared to September this year.
Skills Gap
The top three skills Boston has in abundance are: negotiation skills, real estate and education administration.
And Boston lacks most in oral communication, business management and leadership skills.
