Boston's reputation as a global cybersecurity hub keeps attracting companies from the U.S. and overseas.
Looking for local talent to hire and an European time zone-friendly gateway to the States, several cybersecurity companies have recently relocated to Boston or opened a new office. More than a dozen Israeli cybersecurity startups including Tufin, Morphisec, Hexadite and Cybereason have migrated to Boston—while iboss said goodbye to the San Diego sun to come to the Hub.
One of the latest companies to join the cybersecurity club in the Hub is Egress Software, a data protection company headquartered in London with two additional offices in the U.K. and a development center in Toronto, Canada.
The company announced on Wednesday that it has selected Boston as its North American headquarters, building on its Melcher Street office that is already home to 12 employees. In Boston, employees work in sales, marketing, technical support and professional services.
The announcement is supported by local hiring plans; by the middle of next year, the number of Boston employees should be in the range of 40 to 50, Mark Bower, the company’s chief revenue officer and North American general manager, said.
"Where we'll be expanding further is in the areas of increased professional services and support [and] additional sales," Bower, who relocated from Silicon Valley to Boston when he joined the company in February, said. As for sales, Bower added that the company will look for remote sales people to be based on the east cost.
The fact that Boston had good access to the North American financial markets and the government sector for the east coast - one of Egress' areas of focus for customers - also played a role in expanding the company's presence in the city. The “wealth of talent,” not only in cybersecurity but also in artificial intelligence and machine learning, made the decision to formalize and expand the company's Boston presence final.
"Also, it's a very liveable city," Bower added.
