Boston-based mabl announced on Tuesday that it has raised $20 million in Series B funding.
The round was led by GV (formerly Google Ventures), with participation from existing investors CRV and Amplify Partners. As part of the investment, Karim Faris, general partner at GV, has joined mabl’s board of directors.
Both CRV and Amplify Partners contributed to mabl's $10 million Series A round in February this year, when the company came out of stealth. CRV - the leading investor in Boston-based Drift's Series A in 2014 - has offices in Cambridge, Mass., San Francisco and Palo Alto; Amplify Partners is based in Menlo Park.
Based in Downtown Crossing, mabl uses machine learning to simplify software testing for developers.
The company said it will use the money to accelerate innovation, aimed at making it easier to implement and maintain automated testing at enterprise scale. As part of the investment, mabl said it will also significantly expand its go-to-market and customer success organizations.
On Tuesday, the company also launched "mabl Enterprise," a new software testing product with the ability to run tests in Internet Explorer 11, Chrome and Firefox without using a third party test-cloud provider, among other things.
The names behind mabl have solid experience at Google. Before launching mabl, co-founders Izzy Azeri and Dan Belcher founded Stackdriver, a cloud monitoring solution that Google acquired in 2014. After a few years at the Mountain View company, the founders decided to try something new and left Google in January 2018. Mabl came out of stealth one month after.
“This new investment and product launch are a direct result of the customer demand we’ve seen since we brought mabl to market. Enterprises that use mabl save significant time on test creation and maintenance, enabling them to ship products faster,” said Azeri in a statement.
In August, mabl won one of the five "Reader's Choice" Awards as one of Bostinno's Coolest Companies in Boston in 2018. The perks the company offer to its employees include free breakfast every Monday, team gatherings every Thursday, Summer Fridays and corn-hole games.
