Three months after acquiring software development platform Hiptest, SmartBear is bringing another company under its umbrella.
The Somerville-based provider of tools to develop, test and monitor software announced on Tuesday that it will acquire Zephyr, a San Jose, Calif.-based software testing provider with around 100 employees.
The deal marks the second acquisition for SmartBear this year. In May, SmartBear announced it acquired Hiptest, a development platform for Agile and DevOps teams with offices in France and San Francisco.
In acquiring Zephyr, SmartBear obtains "Zephyr for Jira"—a test management product that works inside the Jira software. In its latest version, the cloud product includes a folder structure that enables logical grouping of test cases within test cycle.
"Zephyr for Jira" became popular as the No. 1 grossing app on the Atlassian Marketplace, a platform where customers of Atlassian (a team collaboration software provider with nine offices in six countries) can discover, try, and buy apps for Atlassian products. The marketplace is a catalogue of apps developed by both Atlassian and third-party developers like Zephyr.
Headquartered in California with regional offices in Philadelphia, Europe and India, Zephyr has more than 18,000 customers who use its tools to conduct over 40 million software tests.
SmartBear, which has around 450 employees, said it will continue to extend and deepen the Zephyr product line and strengthen its relationship with Atlassian.
"We are thrilled to have Zephyr join the SmartBear team,” Justin Teague, CEO of SmartBear, said in a statement. "The acquisition of Zephyr will establish SmartBear a leader in test management and broaden our portfolio of high-impact, easy-to-use tools."
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
