Boston's local innovation is supported by a global workforce -- attracting talent from Burlington, Vermont to Bangalore, India.
According to a recent workforce report published by LinkedIn, Boston attracted most workers from other northeast cities -- mainly, Springfield, Providence, and Hartford. The city also saw a large workforce migration from Bangalore, India.
Conversely, Boston lost most of its workers to San Francisco.
When it comes to skills, the most in-demand skill in Boston exhibits classic supply-demand gap. Despite being one of the nation’s leaders in the industry, healthcare management is the most scarce skill in Boston.
The skill-gap among Boston professionals can seem jarring: marketing event management and music, tv, and video production. But on the other hand, the most abundant skill among Boston professionals is storage system management, followed closely by integrated circuit (IC) design.
The report also found that hiring increased this year. Hiring in Boston was up by 19.3 percent from last year, but still lagging behind larger cities like New York and Chicago, which have hiring rates of 20.8 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
