Digital learning company Cengage is moving its Boston headquarters from Fort Point to occupy five floors in the Pier 4 office building that is nearing completion. The company will relocate in the Innovation District in the fall of 2018.
Cengage said on Thursday that it has signed a 10-year lease to became the tenant of the 2nd through 6th floors, with the 4th floor featuring a private outdoor terrace. Overall, the new 117,000-square-foot space will accommodate all 500 Boston-based employees - currently working out of Fort Point’s Channel Center - and leave room for new hires, the company said.
“We’re currently recruiting for nearly 100 positions and expect more growth in the future," Cengage CTO George Moore said in an email to BostInno. "In this competitive environment, we want office space that facilitates an organic, open exchange of ideas and perspectives between employees, and reflects our innovative and collaborative culture."
A spokesperson for Cengage wrote that the company is recruiting to fill 100 open positions across a range of functions, including software engineering, product management, learning design, marketing, strategy, finance and sales. In 2016, Cengage laid off approximately 100 people while announcing 150 new openings.
According to Bldup, Tishman Speyer's $500 million Pier 4 development project overlooking Boston Harbor will feature a 13-story office building containing 353,000 square feet of office space. The completion date is slated for September 1, 2018.
Cengage, which won BostInno's Tech Madness competition in 2016, moved its headquarters to Boston from Connecticut in 2014.
